Anne Sexton, The Complete Poems (via theantidote)
The past is just a story we tell ourselves.
“There’s an intimacy in listening to somebody’s lies, I’ve always thought—you learn more about someone from the things they wish were true than from the things that actually are.”
― Jennifer duBois, A Partial History of Lost Causes
Most importantly: you’re stronger than you think.
WHY DOES THIS NOT HAVE MORE NOTESwow, this isreally helpful
My best friend has given me this exact advice numerous times, he’s spot on accurate.
The principles behind Bruce Lee’s words that struck me and led me to my own inquiry about “the root”. I will do my best to simplify and interpret what I am trying to present but in such a manner that the reader may come to understand by himself/herself.
"My friend, drop all your preconcieved and fixed ideas and be neutral."
"Empty your mind. Be formless. Shapeless. Like water."
"Using no way as way. Having no limitation as limitation."
USING NO WAY AS WAY. - Is to recognize that chosing a method, a way bounds oneself to very few possiblities. It is to recognize that for one to function freely, and to percieve openly - is to observe choicelessly, free of all oppositional notions. Not to assimilate to the common, habitual or any certain way, method or doctrine, but become ”what is” as it presents itself, become “one with it”, “BE IT”.
HAVING NO LIMITATION AS LIMITATION. - Is to recognize that there is no end, there are only means, there can only be joy in the doing - in the moment. And when there is no joy in the moment, then there is no joy at all. As it is all happening here and now and that is all there “is" and all that "matters". - The word matter in it’s original meaning as "something in exsistance", "isness”. It is therefore to understand that setting any permanent goal, any vision with a certain, fixed ending expectation, limits one’s mind - experience - the whole being. It is to understand that there are no limitations, but the ones imposed upon oneself.
EMPTY YOUR MIND. - Forgetting all that you know, everything accumulated. Dying to yesterday. Being fully engaged in the living moment, open and receptive. In total awareness, that is - choiceless awareness.
Not trying to define or name anything, but see what “is”.
An empty mind is a mindless mind - Not judging, nor justifying any thought, only observing and letting them be and dissolve on their own. Without forcefull directioning of the observer - without oppostion within. It is a fluid mind - Dettached from favor and disgrace. Not for, not against. Free of expectation of reward. Dettached from any outcome.
Wuji (Wu Chi) - Emptiness/ Void
::Verse 28, Dao De Jing::
[When the opposing forces unite within,
there comes a power abundant in its giving
and unerring in its effect.
Flowing through everything.
It returns one to the First Breath.
It returns one to No Limits. ]
The original essence is free movement of spirit.
And to be free is to be free of all fixations,
all separations - all attachments to oppositional notions,
all thoughts that derive from preconcieved ideas.
Everything can be of no use, even if you understand these principles, because…
“Knowing is not enough, we must apply.”
“Willing is not enough, we must do”
For there is no other help but self-help.
